So on what would have been our travel day, we suddenly had a surplus of time. As we enjoyed our morning coffee we plotted out our plans. After chatting things over with Tumi we decided to go out and explore the Western fjord of Hvalfjörður.
So we hopped in the car and headed first to the town of Akranes, which didn't offer much in the way of tourist sights, but it did offer a Quiznos, which was delicious.
After our appetites were sufficiently satiated we went out for a beautiful drive.
Where we were going? Who knows?
We stopped at a pretty church on the edge of the Fjord.
As you can see, it's not exactly ancient.
Ultimately however the scenery was the real site to see.
At the inner most part of the fjord:
Right at the end of the fjord was a trail head for a couple different hikes. We had some plans to be back in town, so we perhaps decided that we didn't have enough time to do the whole trail, so instead we elected to just wander a bit.
Later we traversed the river with the help of this tree and cable combo.
Courtney, unphased:
The trail we were planning on following at this point got a bit confusing, and we elected to take a lazy stroll back along the river. This lazy stroll turned out to be more of a pain in the butt than we had forseen, and resulted in a tough, soggy walk.At which point, our socks squishy and our limbs weary we headed back to Reykjavik to spend our final evening with Tumi, Mary Frances and some of the Valle crew.
