01: Research Stuff

My research here has been slow to get moving, if you're really curious you can check out my blog on the Valle website (https://depts.washington.edu/vallelog/blog/) however I have been able to attend a few tests of various types. I won't get technical, mostly because I only watched and don't know the details of what's going on here, but here we go.

The first tests I attended were some glass beam tests. The beams had on one side two panes sandwiched around another piece of glass such that the connection was in the middle. It was then loaded in two locations near the center until it failed.

I'm sure someone learned something.

I also attended some tests of wood beams. They were looking at the effect of having openings in the middle, presumably for things like heating, ventilation etc.




This last photo has nothing to do with research, but we had a fire drill complete with smoke in the bottom floor. I guess they wanted people to exit a certain way, and apparently whatever everyone did would have resulted in many folk not making it outside.
